It’s that time of year when my mind swirls into what to add to my small live stage production. Now, I have to admit; I’m really proud of my current live set up. It’s fully powered by charged batteries, my pedal board is simple but very effective for the sound I’m reaching for and I’ve been told it’s very professional.
This year I invited special guest James Hutchins to join along with me in on my spring and early summer shows and he provided some great input of my stage set up. After adjusting some thing like adding a sub speaker and learning how to properly wrap and pack chords. Other than that it’s all pretty rock solid for easy set up and tear down.
The last couple days I’ve been thinking about what to add. I thought about adding a video backdrop - purchasing and up-cycling a $20 flat screen TV with a DVD player or something, but then I’m mumbling to myself “more shit to unpack and pack up.”
My thoughts are bouncing back to simple and adding lights. A couple years ago I bought a Venue Tetra Controller that allows you to black out and strobe the lights with a foot, set off preconfigured lighting scenes while adjusting tempo. Pretty rad - but I bought the wrong LED lights - so it didn’t work. Then I learned that the lights that do work each actually cost just as much as the controller. Well, fall is coming up and I think I might jump in for the advancement with a couple bar lights that will actually work with the controller for my upcoming shows.
Speaking of - I’m working on building up my fall and winter shows. Here are my upcoming shows.
