When KouseFly - a Documentary
During the long months of not performing publicly during the pandemic in 2020 and early 2021 I explored different options of creative expression. I was a bit depressed that I no longer had the freedom to book a show, or to even go play a free show at an open mic.
One day I sat in my cold garage and turned on my smartphone and positioned it on a holder, I set up a couple of lights, then just sat and stared at the lens. I started talking about my experiences of getting involved in music in the first place. After a while I had an entire video library of me talking about the first year of my life as a musician.
I decided to stitch them together and create a narrative documentary. I dug around for old photos, talked to friends who I shared the stage with before. It turned out that the entire process was very healthy and refreshing for my passion of performance. I think understanding where we were coming from in the beginning of any journey we tend to remember the answer to the question, “why am I doing this?”
Shortly after getting the film edited I submitted it to a few film festivals for the hell of it. I was happy to learn that the film earned a couple “Official Selection” for showing at a couple festivals, one in New York and the other in Sydney Australia. The entire project revitalized my spirit.
